Quick Review Of The Jungle Book

For all the fanboys of Rudyard Kipling’s work and those of you who have seen Disney’s evergreen animated movie from 1967, you all will know exactly what to expect. But what made the Jungle Book truly remarkable and enthralling every step of the way despite knowing the story was Jon Fraveau’s direction, the special effects and an adaptation like never before. On reading up about The Jungle Book, I came across a video that showcases the excellent and a lush green actual jungle that has been built in Downtown L.A. by Jon Fraveau especially for the realistic look and feel. So apart from the animation and computer generated feed, the live flora and fauna addition had its own charm to bring forth to the biggest live-action film of 2016.

The Jungle Book starts with Mowgli (Neel Sethi) trying to learn the wolves’ ways of existing in the jungle. Mowgli, a man-cub has always lived and been brought up in the jungle by a pack of wolves led by Akela (Giancarlo Esposito) and Raksha (Lupita Nyong’o). Mowgli has always been considered like he is actually one of the wolves and he hasn’t ever been introduced to his kind. His life with the wolf pack is peaceful, loving and happy, until his path is crossed by the vengeful tiger Sher Khan (Idris Elba). Sher Khan hates the slightest hint of a human presence since he was involved in an incident with a man that ended up burning his face in the fight they got into. Since then he made it his life mission to get rid of any human and now he is after Mowgli’s life. The only thing that stops him from doing any harm to Mowgli is the pact made between the animals in times of a drought.

Making the hard decision, Mowgli decides to move out of the Jungle and thus he embarks on the journey with Bagheera (Sir Ben Kingsley) the Black Panther.Bagheera was the one who got him introduced to the pack after all. The action sequences and fight sequences that take place during their journey in the jungle is breathtakingly beautiful. Mowgli also meets some very interesting characters on his journey like the entrancing snake Kaa (Scarlett Johansson) and my personal favourite Baloo the bear (Bill Murray) that the audience welcomed with so much of applause.

The Jungle Book is definitely going to be loved by both kids and adults. No wonder that the director Jon Favreau’s Avatar introduced us to another world of possibilities and this is again his directorial best. My heart went out to Baloo when he has to choose between his heart and doing the right thing for Mowgli. The film is gripping right from the start. The narrative and excellent CGI is what makes this film a cinematic wonder.

I give The Jungle book a Star 4
